SouthPark

SouthPark is located at the corners of Sharon and Fairview roads about six miles south of center city Charlotte.  SouthPark once part of a 3,000-acre farm owned by N.C. Gov. Cameron Morrison. The original farm reached all the way from Cotswold to Quail Hollow. The farm’s main residence, the Historic Morrocroft Mansion, built between 1924 and 1927  still remains on its original site. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the overwhelming 14,000-square-foot Tudor Revival home stayed in the Morrison/Harris family until 1981. It remains a private and beautifully restored residence today.

SouthPark is a prestigious address that offers a variety of housing styles, ranging from 1950's ranch homes in Beverly Woods and Barclay Downs to newer multi-million-dollar homes in neighborhoods like Quail Hollow Foxcroft, Deering Oaks and the exclusive gated communities of Morrocroft and near by Seven Eagles. The Harris YMCA (family oriented Y) at the corner of Sharon and Quail Hollow Roads is also a legacy from the Morrison/Harris family. Additionally, SouthPark is the second-largest business district in the state (developed primarily by the Bissell and Harris families), with over 40,000 workers. Impressive office buildings are spread throughout the area, including the alluring Rotunda with its dramatic fountains. Several hotels are also located in South Park. Some compare South Park to Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, as they are very similar.

SouthPark Mall is known as the best shopping experience in the city, with over 100 Iconic stores such as Dillards, Belk, Nordstrom, Neiman-Marcus, Macy's, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Ann Taylor, Tiffany's, Carlyle Jewelers and Finks Jewelers just to name a few.

SouthPark is also the home of the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops concerts, which are performed at the new amphitheater at SouthPark. These evening concerts are free to all. The other signature event is  the annual Christmas tree lighting, which takes place on Thanksgiving Day early evening and features caroling and a visit from non other than Santa. SouthPark is the home to the Fortune 500 company Nucor, as well as National Gypsum, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Piedmont Natural Gas and J.A. Jones Construction Company. Maersk, Bank of America Mortgage, First Citizens Bank, and CSX have major divisional operations located in SouthPark.
